Green Bay has made a big investment in Jordan Love. They better hope that he’s the quarterback that finished the season and not the one that started it. I understand they had to pay him because they chose to let him sit behind Aaron Rodgers for the first few years of his rookie contract, but it’s still a gamble on someone with fewer than 20 starts.
On offense, this team is filled with young playmakers at every position. Getting Josh Jacobs in free agency is going to add a little toughness to the running back group, but I don’t think he’s bringing much more than what they had with Aaron Jones last year.
Defensively, the Packers have been sorely inconsistent. They addressed that in the draft bringing in a couple of players that have a chance to start right away. Teams were able to run the ball easily against this defense and they struggled to force turnovers. How well they fix that in the offseason will be key to how far the Packers can go this season.
Injuries were a big part of last season. If Christian Watson and Luke Musgrave can stay on the field, this could be the top passing offense in the league this year.
Matt LaFleur has proven to be an excellent offensive coach. As he continues to develop Jordan Love, the offense will be the strength of this team. But without a consistent defense, this team will be in some shootouts this year and it’s going to be tough to make a deep run in the playoffs like that.
