Brian Daboll is a good coach. But this roster and this organization is killing his career. I don’t think he will survive this season, and that might be the best thing for him!
Daniel Jones is still the quarterback here, even though he provides no consistency. I understand drafting a dynamic talent like Malik Nabers to try and help Jones get the ball downfield, but I would rather they focused on keeping their quarterback upright by investing in o-line help.
I’m not sure Brian Burns is enough to help the defensive line win at the point of attack. Bringing in a whole new defensive scheme is going to take time to adjust, and who knows if the personnel is going to thrive in the same system Tennessee ran for the past few years.
Letting Saquon Barkley go is going to put even more pressure on Daniel Jones to step up and be the guy for the offense. And that is an indictment of the front office. Letting Saquon walk is bad enough, but for him to go to Philly is just going to rub salt in the wound for the next couple of years. At the very least, they should have worked out a sign and trade deal. Just really poor player management.
And because of that, the New York Giants are lacking any kind of identity. There needs to be a cultural shift here, and I think Daboll has been there too long to be the one to make it happen. Coaches need to set that standard in the first year, not the third. There are pieces here of what a good team looks like, but they are too few and far between to be consistent. Unfortunately, another lost year in New York.
