Cleveland Browns 2024 Preview

Is there a more overlooked coach than Kevin Stefanski? Is there a more overlooked team than the Cleveland Browns?

Starting quarterback gone, starting running back gone, still made the playoffs. This team has consistently overachieved on offense the past couple of years. On defense, led by Myles Garrett, this could be a unit that compares with some of the best of the past ten years. There’s a lot to like here.

Since signing his record breaking contract, Deshaun Watson has only appeared in 12 games for the Browns. This offense is led by the running game and Jerome Ford filled in admirably after Nick Chubb was injured last year. Chubb is still working back from that injury, and when he’s ready hopefully Stefanski can find a good rotation to keep both of them fresh at the end of the season.

Amari Cooper has been a solid receiving option since arriving from Dallas. The Browns decided to bring in Jerry Jeudy to try and help in the passing game. Jeudy never lived up to his potential in Denver, so maybe a change of scenery will help him. This team is still missing a dynamic big play guy, but adding too much talent might go against their overachieving identity.

The quarterback position is going to determine how far the Browns go this season. If Deshaun Watson shows the same talent he displayed in Houston and can survive a full season, this could be a Super Bowl team. If Watson struggles or gets injured again, Jameis Winston looks to be the backup this year. His wild carefree style of play might be fun to watch but it’s painfully inconsistent.

These Browns probably should be playing in 1980’s with the power run and dominating defense. It might not be enough to win a Super Bowl this year, but Marty Schottenheimer would definitely approve!

2024 Prediction: 10-7 3rd AFC North/Playoffs Wild Card Round
