Buffalo Bills 2024 Preview

There are very few teams that can maintain a high level of success year after year and still not manage a Super Bowl appearance. Eventually the salary cap or an impatient owner steps in and forces a rebuild. The Bills feel like they are dangerously close to a roster makeover.

Losing Stefon Diggs wasn’t as painful as some may think. His production had been steadily falling and his need to be fed the football was holding back the explosiveness of this offense. But with the loss of Gabe Davis too, this wide receiver room should scare every Buffalo fan. When you start thinking about the top offenses in the AFC, can this unit hold up?

The idea might be to shift to a run heavy approach and lean on what has been a fantastic defense this year. But the depth behind James Cook is suspect and I don’t know if his frame can stand up to 20 touches a game.

So this year, as it always has been, will be dependent on the right arm and legs of Josh Allen. There are few better suited for the task. But its not how you build a championship roster. John Elway toiled in Denver carrying that team on his back throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. He had to step back and let the Terrell Davis be the lead dog to win his Super Bowls. Who is going to step up and take some of this load off Josh Allen? I don’t think they are on the roster yet.

All of that being said, this is still a very talented team. Even with a healthy Aaron Rodgers in New York, this Bills team is still the best in the division. Their problem will be in the playoffs where the offense likely won’t have enough fire power to compete with the rest of the top AFC teams.

There is a winning tradition in Buffalo, and its hard to bet against Josh Allen and that defense in the regular season. But if they get off to a slow start this year, and end up missing the playoffs, it might be time to bring in some new faces – especially in the coaching staff.
