Feels like I’ve said this before, but holy cow those were some amazing finishes to games! The analyst in me, trying to accurately predict winners every week, was sweating bullets. But the fan in me loved every one of those games. So for the week I went 10 – 3, and I have the Rams winning tonight. For the season I am 99 – 51.
Maybe the biggest miss I had this week was thinking any game was a sure thing. I was positive that the Saints had no chance against the Falcons. It was my biggest lock of the week and I failed miserably on it. But I appreciate the reminder, these are all professionals and anyone can win on any given Sunday.
Anyway, here are the rest of my hits and misses for week ten:
Hit
Arizona is starting to look like a team that is ascending. The Jets aren’t great, but this was a game that Cardinals teams from past years would have found a way to lose. If they can split their division games and win the games they are favored in, the Cardinals have a shot at the playoffs this year.
Miss
Joe Flacco. I was sure that he was the calming force that offense needed. Instead, the offense continues to rely to heavily on the run game and they can’t get any explosive plays through the passing game. I thought they could finish strong and make a playoff run. That doesn’t look possible right now.
Hit
Chicago looks like they might be done. I said this would be a telling game. The Patriots win with hustle and physicality. The Bears continue to look like a team that has given up on their coaches.
Miss
The NFC South. I already mentioned the Saints/Falcons game, but the Panthers won and the Bucs lost. That means the two teams I thought were at the top of the division lost this week, and the bottom feeders – the teams I had ranked 32 and 30 overall, won.
Hit
The record isn’t good, but tell me you didn’t watch that Thursday night game and think that Cincinnati is one of the seven best teams in the AFC.
Miss
Jared Goff led his team to a remarkable come from behind victory. But he had a bad game. Like a “can’t be MVP” type of bad game.
Hit
Dallas is now competing for a top ten draft pick.
Miss
The Chargers playoff chances. The schedule is still going to be tough for them down the stretch, but right now there doesn’t seem to be a team that can catch them in the standings.
Hit
Buffalo is starting to show the type of balance – run, pass, defense – that it’s going to take to compete with the Chiefs and Ravens in the playoffs. We’ll see next week how well they match up when Kansas City comes to visit.
