Maybe the biggest rival for the Jets is MetLife Stadium? Universally considered the worst playing surface in the NFL it is an injury magnet. What would last season have been if Aaron Rodgers had played? Well, the offense was 29th in points scored and 31st in yards per game. I imagine both of those numbers would have been significantly different if he had been playing.
So obviously the Jets are going to be much better this year right?
Better? Yes. Much better? Hmmm….
Aaron Rodgers is an upgrade over what they had last year with Zach Wilson, but he’s not the same quarterback everyone remembers from Green Bay. In that final season with the Packers, Rodgers had his worst season since being named the starter in 2008. He posted his lowest quarterback rating, fewest yards per game, and his 12 interceptions was the most he’s thrown since the 13 he threw in 2008. The 2:1 touchdown to interception ratio was far below his career average of 4.5:1. Now he’s two years older and coming off a major injury. This is not an MVP caliber quarterback that the Jets are bringing out.
The offensive line is still a question mark and depth at receiver and running back is very thin. Mike Williams catches injuries like most people catch a cold. Putting him on this field to be the number 2 wide receiver is not going to do much for depth.
The defense is solid, and I think Robert Saleh is a good coach. Three years ago, I think the Jets were on a good path. Bringing in Rodgers meant bringing in old veteran receivers from Green Bay. It meant bringing in Nathaniel Hackett as the offensive coordinator. If this team doesn’t make the Super Bowl what did they gain? They’ve set the franchise back another five years and cost a good coach his job. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how the game works.
2024 Prediction: 8-9 3rd AFC East
