Well that was quick. Did he still get to board the chartered flight home from London?
There had been something brewing for a while here. Rodgers clearly wasn’t happy with the coaching staff this year. Whether it was the push/hug incident, the cadence comments, or just his body language on the field, the signs were there.
Saleh doesn’t have the track record to go head to head with a quarterback with a resume like Rodgers. But this isn’t the first time Rodgers has done this. Remember how Mike McCarthy was dismissed in Green Bay? This was a deal with the devil from the beginning for the Jets. They could have brought in Derek Carr two years ago, and he’s played well enough since leaving the Raiders. But the Jets decided to go all in on Rodgers. Then they had to sign his friends/receivers. Then they had to bring in his offensive coordinator. Saleh lost his locker room and his coaching staff to Rodgers. And by the way, Hackett is the one calling the plays. Hackett is the problem with the offense.
The Jets defense has been good. That’s what Saleh was known for. Why get rid of the defensive brain trust when the offense is the issue? It makes no sense, unless you factor in that Rodgers simply didn’t want to play for Saleh.
Ultimately, I understand the decision, but I don’t agree with it. Ask yourself honestly, how does this decision make the team better? It doesn’t. And that’s why this is a bad move for the Jets – and a bad look for the legacy of Aaron Rodgers.
What say you, Jets fans? Good decision/Bad decision?
